Formal charges have been brought against two men related to a luggage theft where a substance thought to be irritant spray resulted in harm at the UK's busiest airport.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, now face two counts of robbery and two counts of using a harmful chemical, according to official statements.

The charges follow an investigation into an attack at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on the weekend. Earlier that day, two women were robbed of their luggage stolen after exiting a car park lift, according to law enforcement.

A young child was caught up in the incident in the event. Several persons went to hospital for treatment and were eventually allowed to go home.

This event – which authorities stated was isolated and not being treated as terrorism – led to disruptions to rail services and the temporary blocking of the main airport road tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a limited duration.
