Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.
Pereira was sacked on Sunday after the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the top-flight season.
And both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the club - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong candidate for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of appointing a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock choice given he was released by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham United player is out of work meaning Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
