A Heap of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season present a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from snapping at loved ones. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy announcements emerged over the festive period, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the biggest announcement, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop further production. Season 3 will return with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, by now, they could be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series showed it maintained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio renowned for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has yet to be revealed.
